How to apply

You need to obtain a copy of the Tax file number – application or enquiry for individuals (NAT 1432). To do this:

• visit online ordering
• phone 1300 720 092 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• visit one of our shopfronts or selected newsagents, or
• ask for one from Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs if you are applying for a government benefit or pension.

This form must be accompanied by original documents which prove your identity. As a result, you cannot apply for a tax file number (TFN) online at this time.

Your TFN will not be processed without the necessary documents. A full list of acceptable documents is provided in the instructions to the form.

If you cannot find your TFN or are not sure you have a TFN, check all your correspondence from us, contact your tax agent or phone us on 13 28 61 between 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday.
